Can I use wall tiles on the floor and floor tiles on the wall?
Wall tiles can only be used on the wall as the glaze cannot withstand foot traffic. However, floor tiles can be used on walls.
What is the difference between porcelain and ceramic tiles?
Porcelain tiles use high quality clays and are fired at much higher temperatures, which creates a stronger tile, enabling them to be used on floors. Wall tiles are generally ceramic, as they are cheaper to manufacture and lighter to install. All Studio floor tiles are porcelain, and all Studio wall tiles are ceramic.
Do I have to use a different tile outside?
You must use porcelain tiles outdoors as frost can affect tiles if rain is followed by freezing temperatures as the rain is absorbed into the tile, then expands as it freezes blowing the glaze off the tile. All porcelain tiles have a low water absorption, making them frost-resistant, so any Studio Tile for floors can be used outside. Generally customers prefer outdoor tiles to have some slip resistance, these tiles are noted in the Studio range as being ‘grip’ or ‘rock’ finishes. Be cautious that outdoor tiles due to their texture will gather dirt which lighter colours will show more easily than dark colours.
Do I just need to purchase enough tiles for the job I am planning?
We recommend that you purchase approximately 5 - 8% extra to allow for wastage (i.e. cutting). We also recommend that you also keep spare tiles to use for future repairs and additions. There can be colour discrepancies between different batches of the same tile, so even if the same tile was still in production, it may not be an exact match to the existing work.
How do I maintain my tiles?
A thorough post-installation clean is the most important, to remove contamination from adhesives and grouts used during installation. If this initial clean is not done properly the long-term appearance of the tiles can be badly affected After installation, use a neutral cleaner to maintain and clean your tiles, as highly acidic cleaners are not kind to grout. We recommend Aquamix Concentrated Tile Cleaner and Tarkett Bioclean (suitable also for wood, laminate and vinyl floors).
