DIY Cushions

Janco Collection

Personalised cushions, especially in living rooms, can help to create a personalised and cohesive environment. And they are easier to make than you perhaps thought!

  • Gather your supplies. You will need fabric/s of your choice, cushion inserts, a sewing machine, iron, pins, needle and thread.
  • Cut one piece of fabric for the front of your cushion, and two pieces for the back. The two back pieces will overlap to create the opening, so take your size measurement, add 15cm and cut this piece in half. For example, if your finished size is 45cm, cut the back piece to 60cm, and then in half again so you end up with two 30cm pieces. When cutting the finished size, cut to the exact size to ensure a snug fit.
  • Iron a 1cm hem on the two back pieces that will overlap, then sew along the fold.
  • Lay down the front fabric with the design facing up. Lay the back pieces on top of this, ensuring the edges meet and the fabric designs are facing each other.
  • Pin the edges of the fabric and sew the edges.
  • Turn the cushion cover inside out, insert your cushion inner, and voilà! You're done.
